Nancy J. Fernauld was born to Nathaniel and Nancy (Pottle) Fernauld. She was one of 14 children who are clearly named on her parent's gravestone (seen in 2011).

Nancy married Joseph R. Young on 9 March 1834 in Lincolnville, ME. Joseph was the son of Phoebe (Wadsworth) and Gideon Young, Jr. Their children were: Susannah (Sept 1835), Stephen A (Nov 1836), Nathaniel (May 1838), Sewell L (Jan 1840), Zealor W (Oct 1841), Eleazer or Leza (Mar 1843), Daniel (Jan 1845), Julia A (Mar 1847), and Joseph Uriah (Jan 1849). Joseph died in January of 1852 (at age 40) from an accident in the woods.

Nancy married Isaac Heal in Lincolnville on 3 March 1853. Nancy had three more sons with Isaac: Joseph Heal(1854, died 1854), Charles F Heal(Sept 1856), and George W. Heal (Nov 1858).
