Mrs. Bernice Audrey Lyle Morgan Fortsch, 79, died Tuesday evening at the home of her son, 639 South 11th, after a long illness.

She was born Oct 21, 1898 in Clay County, Iowa to John Josiah and Rhoda Crosby Morgan, the youngest of 9 children.

She moved at the age of 11 with her parents to Sheridian, Montana,returning to Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1917 where she attended Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa.

Following her marriage to Lynne Edward Fortsch on Jun 17, 1923 at Cedar Falls, Iowa, she taught school in Iowa, North Dakota and Idaho, moving to Pocatello in 1949 where she received her degree in Education at Idaho State University.

Mr. Fortsch taught at Pocatello High School until retiring in 1967 when they moved to Manzanita, Oregon. He died April 17, 1968. Mrs. Fortsch returned to Pocatello in 1972 and had lived with her son, David E. Fortsch since.

She was well known for her poetry and prose and enjoyed writing, music and singing.

Mrs. Fortsch is survived by two sons, Byron Lynne Fortsch, Beaverton, Oregon and David E. Fortsch, Pocatello, a sister, Elsie Stahlberg, Bismarck, North Dakota, and four grandchildren.

She had been active in the Methodist and Congregational churches in locations where they lived. Most recently she attended the First Assembly of God Church in Pocatello. She was a member of the Chapter AK, PEO and a 51 year member of the Friendship Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday afternoon at Fution Mortuary in Beaverton, Oregon. Burial will be in the family plot at the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. "Memorial services will be conducted next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Henderson Funeral Chapel in Pocatello. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home, 431 North 15th.
