The following appeared in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Tuesday, October 20, 1885 regarding Rossman and his brother Edwin Parshall:
For sheriff of Wayne county, Rossman Parshall
has been nominated. The Military History of
Wayne County, by Professor Lewis H. Clark, gives the
patriotic record of the Parshalls as follows: "Edwin
Purshall, enlisted August 7, 1868, 111th
Infantry, Company A; promoted first'lieutenant
January 25, 1864; commissioned
May 28, 1864; died July 14. 1864, of
wounds received in battle, June 87th, and
buried in Palmyra cemetery. " * • Rossman
Parshall. enlisted, orderly sergeant, August
88, 1864, 111th Infantry,'Company A;
promoted second lieutenant, June 8, 1865 ;
not mustered, discharged with the regiment
June 4, 1865. »' Of Lieutenant Edwin Parshall
the Rochester Express said: * * We are
pained by the intelligence that Lieutenant
Edwin Parshall, commanding Company A,
111th regiment, died yesterday at his'
father's residence near Palmyra. Lieutenant
Parshall went out with his regiment, participated
in all of its duties and actions in
which it has been engaged and was wounded
in the recent flank movement of Hancock's
corps across the Weldon railroad in the rear
of Petersburg*. He returned home hopeful
that he might recover; but the stern
oommand to march into the undiscovered
country had been given and the young warrior,
with bright laurels on his brow, obeys the summons.
Another young life has been given for the country.
Where is the gallant youth who is ready to
step into his place and imitate his noble
example?" Professor Clark adds his own
comment, as follows: "To this question of
the writer Rossman Parshall, scarcely 18
years of age, a brother of the deceased, nobly
responded. The date of his enlistment
above shows that within a month after his
brother's herolo death he had gone to step
Into the place of the dead. Loavlng a home
already shadowed with this great sorrow,
leaving behind a grave .upon which the
heaped-up earth was still fresh, he sought
the field of honor and did good service to the
end." Such is the man whom the people
of Wayne county will have the honor of
electing sheriff on the 8d of November next.

Kate Eveline Thurber was Rossman Parshall's first wife. They married in 1872. She died in 1892. They had one son, Ross Thurber Parshall. Marriage to Emma Lee Blakely was in 10 Sept 1895.
