Elton C. Conerly

Elton C. Conerly, 80, of Nederland passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Park Place Medical Center in Port Arthur. Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Pat A. Riley Funeral Home in Nederland with Dr. David Higgs officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland. A gathering of friends and family will take place Tuesday, February 1, 2005 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Elton was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Janice McRae Conerly; daughters, Carolyn Martin and her husband Bubba of Nederland, Texas and Cathy Glover and her husband Ray of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Scott Martin, Aimee Martin Duron, Jace Martin and Lisa Glover; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Martin and Grace Martin; eight nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Alma Conerly of Leesville, Louisiana, mother-in-law, Clarice McRae of Leesville, Louisiana.

Elton was a retired Clerk from Texaco after thirty-four years of service. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, 8th Air Force, 457th Bombardment group, 751st Squadron. He was a Waist Gunner on a B-17 in which he flew thirty-one missions from Peterborough England.

Elton served the Lord faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at North End Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas and First Baptist Church in Nederland. He was a current member of the Rebounders Class at First Baptist Church and had been a member of the Silvertones Choir, Silver Ukes, and Silver Bells. In retirement Elton became a licensed ham radio operator with the call letters, "WB5RFO", was an avid bowler and woodworker. He dabbled in some artistic painting and learned to play the Ukulele, guitar and dulcimer.
