---------------
Donna Mae (Copeland) Branscum departed from this life on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the age of 85. She was born in Bristow, Oklahoma on November 15, 1923, to Arthur T. and Anna K. Copeland. Donna graduated from Tionesta, Pennsylvania in 1942, and went on to attend nursing school. She earned a nursing diploma in 1945 from the Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing. Donna met Ben Branscum at a small restaurant in Okemah, Oklahoma and they wed on January 12, 1947. They made their first home in Okemah and soon moved to Stillwater as Ben attended Oklahoma A & M. Ben found work in the oilfields and the young couple moved to Pampa, Texas. Their first son, David Branscum, was born in 1948. The young family moved to Louisiana and back to Texas before settling in Oklahoma in 1955. The family was blessed with three more boys, Ranny, Lew, and Todd, and enjoyed many years on their small ranch outside of Bristow. Donna worked as the Creek County Health Department Nurse for over 25 years. This county job brought her lifelong friends. It also came with the benefit of a car and Donna was delivered a standard stick shift Jeep -- a stick shift she never could master. Donna was most passionate about her job delivering health care to county residents at all hours of the day and night. She delivered babies and brought basic health care to the low income, seniors and most needy in the county. Donna had a big heart and oftentimes opened her home and reached into her own pocketbook to help those in need of basics, from food to diapers to washers and dryers. Her giving ways resulted in lively discussions at home and separate checking accounts. She was known for a swift jab and likely gave most everyone in Bristow a shot at one time or another. She helped found the New Hope Villa, a training program for the mentally disabled, in 1958. Donna dearly loved her sons and delighted watching the boys in school and sports events. Later, she found that same joy in watching her grandchildren and spent many hours on the gym bleachers. She also enjoyed the time she spent with her sewing and craft hobbies, playing games, traveling to see relatives and friends, and spending a few dollars at the horse races. Horses was a favorite topic at the Branscum home – Ben fed and raised them and she bet on them. Donna received most of her enjoyment from her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She showed her love with smiles and hugs and through the creation of quilts for each of her grandchildren.

She is survived by four wonderful sons: David and Ranny Branscum of Bristow, Oklahoma; Lew Branscum of Ulysses, Kansas; and Todd Branscum of Helena, Montana; four daughter-in-laws: Valley, Linda, Trina and Jean; seven grandchildren: Dalley, Will, Shaman, Sabrina, Chisholm, Cheyenne and Dylan; and five great grandchildren: Marley Branscum, Drew and Dylan Turner, Colton and Peyton Cundiff. She is also survived by her niece, Donna Rae Brown, who provided loving care for Donna in her home the past five years; and other loved relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Ben Branscum, her parents Arthur T. and Anna K. Copeland, and her seven brothers and one sister. Her smiles, her stories and her catching laugh will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be 10:00AM Friday, July 3, 2009 at Hutchins-Maples Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jason Hutsell officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
