Jack Eugene Cunningham, 82 years, of Anderson, Mo., departed this life on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Freeman Hospital in Neosho, Mo.

Jack Eugene Cunningham was born March 31, 1927, on the Grimes farm in Beeman Hollow, northwest of Anderson, to Alfred Luther and Edna (Grimes) Cunningham.

He attended Anderson School, grades one through 12.

He joined the Air Corps during his junior year in 1944. He was called to service after graduating in 1945. Jack was an instructor in the weather school during his active duty at Chanute Field, Ill. He later served in the Missouri National Guard for 30 years.

Upon discharge, he attended Joplin Junior College and worked part time at the Anderson Post Office. He went to work full time as a clerk there in 1948, and served in that capacity for two years. He then became the rural route one carrier and served his patrons for 21 years, before being appointed postmaster in 1971. He was active in the Postmasters Association during that time. After serving as postmaster for 11 years, Jack retired in 1982.

Memberships and civic duties have included: American Legion commander, Lions Club president, American Cancer Society chairman, election judge for 23 years, McDonald County Fair Board, weather observer for the National Weather Bureau for 50 years, Anderson School Board during reorganization to McDonald County R-1 and Methodist Men. He was often called to sing for public performances and did so, gladly. His recreation and hobbies included many outdoor sports, such as hunting, fishing, golf and gardening. He enjoyed wood-working, stained glass crafts and working with concrete.

Jack married Rebecca Milburn on May 17, 1953, in the Methodist Church, Gravette, Ark. They have two children, Barbara, born July 19, 1954, and David, born Aug. 12, 1957. They are proud grandparents, as well. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003.
