Joseph G.: Chambers, 79, Retired Farmer-Merchant, Passes Early Tuesday passed away at his home on 3rd Avenue Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, following an extended illness. Mr. Chambers had been a resident of Florala for more than 20 years. He moved to Florala from the Damascus Community where he was en gaged in farming. He was a charter member of the Damascus Baptist Church and was instrumental in helping to build the church building there. He served the church many years as Deacon. Funeral services were , held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Damascus Baptist Church with his pastor, Rev. William Mc- Crory, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. H. B. Shepherd of the Florala First Baptist Church. A choir under the direction of J. H. Caraway, rendered the song service. Interment was in the church cemetery. ; Active pallbearers were Clyde Chambers, Tommy Chambers, Marvin Edmondson, Melvin Edmond-son, Glenn Chambers and Lewie Chambers. , Honorary pallbearers were Porter Goolsby, Fred McGee, Frazier Stokes, Tom Windham, Bradford Scheffer, A. G. Henley, Leo Allen and J. H. Caraway. . Surviving are the widow, six sons, Chalmas and Joel of Rt I, Florala; Arrie and Bernice of R. 1, Laurel Hill; Talmadge, Montgom ery; Emmet Florala; two daughters, Mrs. G. S. Edmondson, Flor ala; and Mrs. Flora Saunders, Okla homa City, Okla.; three brothers and one sister. .'- Evans Funeral Home directed.
