Ansel Blossom emigrated with his family from Maine to Adams Co., Indiana in 1822 and settled on a tract of land on the east bank of the St. Mary's river, just across from Willshire, Ohio. First Justice of the Peace in St. Mary's township, performed the first marriage ceremony. He was a teacher in Maine, a farmer in Indiana.
