He was born Luther Henry Whitney on March 13, 1886 in Trenton the son of Luther Heman Whitney and Florence May GiBeaut Whitney. When he was five yrs old the family moved to a farm west of Trenton. He attended Grundy County rural schools. On November 13, 1913 he was married to Frances Metcalf at Edinburg. They farmed all their married lives, retiring in 1959 moving to Trenton. He was a member of the Edinburg Baptist Church and the Edinburg IOOF lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; a son, Luther "Peck" (Farrel) Whitney; his daughters, Mary Maxey and Patty (Junior) Griffin all of Trenton; Grandchildren include Donald Whitney, Dianna Whitney, Larry Whitney, Stephen Maxey, Chris Griffin, David Griffin, Danny Maxey and Dwight Griffin. Brothers; Joseph Whitney, Julian Whitney and A. T. Whitney all of Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Lillian Whitney and Edna Weaver; A brother Edgar Whitney; two grandchildren, David and Ann Maxey and a Son in law Dennis Maxey.
