CHATHAM --- Tamara (Chaikowski) Wade, 63, of Somerset, N.J. died on April 14 after a long illness.

A native of Newton, she graduated from Vassar College in 1966 and went on to teach special education students with the Seattle Public Schools. For several years while in Seattle, she and her husband lived on a houseboat on Portage Bay and being rocked to sleep each night by the gentle swells of the water. Her love of international culture led her to host numerous foreign exchange students, mainly from Italy. She became a self-taught gourmet cook, specializing in Italian, Asian and French cooking. She took cooking classes in Italy with the renowned chef Marcella Hazan to supplement her expertise.

She is survived by her husband Peter; a son, Douglas; granddaughter Eva of Los Angeles; a sister, Holly Davis of Lebanon Penn.; and nieces Hilary Davis of Toronto and Kendra Stewart of Greenlawn, N.Y.

She was buried in Chatham, where as a youth she spent her summers with her family
