Elizabeth Harriett Walters was born 26 June 1913 in Lemmon, S.D., she moved to the Portland area in 1932. She was a 1932 graduate of Gresham High School and she married Everett Ownbey in 1934. The couple made their home in the Gresham area, and she worked for the Portland office of the Boy Scouts of America. Later, she did office work for the Goldendale Creamery in Goldendale, Wash. Her husband died in 1956. She operated the Linfield Snack Bar for several years and worked for 16 years as a secretary for the Yamhill County Extension Service until her retirement in 1971. She married Rudolph Schaad in October 1964.

Mrs. Schaad belonged to Business and Professional Women. She served as the Oregon state corresponding secretary, West Coast district chairman and past president of the organization's McMinnville Unit. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school and served as a superintendent for many years. Additionally, she was a past master and county deputy for the Fernwood Grange and had been treasurer for the Newberg Garden Club.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her son, Donald C. Ownbey of Eugene; daughters, Flora L. Knox of Tigard and Corinne E. Stennett of John Day; brother, Allan Walters of Gresham, sister Joy F. Bell of Tygh Valley; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Elizabeth Schaad died of pneumonia Monday in a Newberg hospital at the age of 77. A funeral for Elizabeth Schaad, a Newberg resident, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church in Newberg. Interment will be in Friends Cemetery.
