Berneta Annette was born the daughter of Jack and Minnie (Gray) Allen on Nev. 22, 1901, in Marquam, Ore. She grew up in Marquam, then moved with her family to Oregon City, where her parents operated a grocery store. After graduating from Oregon City High School, she worked as a secretary in Portland, where she met Russell Peterson.

They were married and lived in Portland, where she was a homemaker. In the following years, they moved to Corvallis where he operated an electrical and battery shop and later operated a dairy in the Lincoln City area. He farmed in the Redmond area from 1939-44, lived in Molalla and then Vernonia. They moved to Newberg in 1951. He preceded her in death in 1957.

In June 1962 she married Fred W. Schaad. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1981. She continued to make her home in Newberg until moving to Woodburn about four years ago when she needed nursing care.

She was a member of Newberg First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and keeping her home.

Surviving are two children, Rhoda Ann Ferguson of Molalla, and Russell A. Peterson Jr. of Cornelius; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
