John E. Bailey
Funeral services for John E. Bailey, pioneer farmer of Washington township who passed away at the Jones hospital Wednesday afternoon, will be held at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and at 2 o'clock at the local Methodist church. The Rev. George Lawton of Villisca will conduct the ceremony and interment will be made in the Lewis cemetery.
In 1872, Mr. Bailey was married to Sally A. Hall of Ohio, one son, John S., being born to this union. Sally Bailey passed away Dec. 5, 1875. On Dec 20, 1876, he was married to Lottie Williamson. Six of the nine children born to this union are still living.
The children surviving are: Frank of Ferndale, Wash.; Charles of Van Meter, Ia.; Bert of Los Angeles, Cal.; Ethel of Denver, Colo.; and Roy and Verda of near Atlantic. There also are 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren still living.
In 1913, Mr. Bailey left the farm and moved to Atlantic, where Lottie Bailey died June 11, 1918. He was married to Frances A. Roberts on Nov. 8, 1922, who survives him; also one brother, George Bailey of Rock Island, Ill.
He has been affiliated with the M. E. church for many years.
