Orlando C. Bassett was born in Milford Township May 19 1867 and departed this life August 25 1948 at the age of 81 years 3 months and 6 days. He was the oldest of a family of seven children born to Lucas L. and Christina Likes Bassett, all of whom are deceased.

On March 19 1890 he was united in marriage to Rosa C. Gross and to this union were born two children, Lloyd C. of Sturgis Michigan and Velma L. (Mrs. Dewey Vose) of Terra Haute Ind. In March of 1901 they moved to Springfield township where he engaged in farming until ill health and advancing years obliged him to retire, when he moved to Brushy Prairie where he has since resided.

He was a good husband and father, an honest industrious and worthy citizen. He served as township assessor for six successive years and was elected to the office of township trustee but declined its acceptance.

Mr and Mrs Bassett celebrated their golden anniversary in this church and many who were present on that occasion are to-day assembled to pay their respects to their departed friend and neighbor.

He is survived by his widow Rosa, the son and daughter, give grand children and two great grand children who cherish and revere his memory.

Funeral services were held at the East Springfield Church, conducted by Reverend Donald Koontz, with burial in the Wright Cemetery. (source: church obituary)
