VAN WERT, Ohio - William H. Ludwig, 74, of Van Wert, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Vancrest Healthcare Center, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Van Wert, to the late Dorothea (O'Leary) Ludwig and Owen Burnell Ludwig. His wife, Evelyn (Mason) Ludwig, survives of Van Wert. The couple was married Aug. 26, 1959.
Survivors include his children: Sue (Daniel) Jones and Jeff Ludwig, both of Delphos, Ohio, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: Michael Ludwig, and a brother: Richard Ludwig.
He was a member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church, Van Wert. He retired from Federal Mogul in Van Wert, and had also retired from the Van Wert County Sheriff's Dept. He was a member of the Van Wert Elks, had served on the Hospital Commission Board for many years, was a veteran of the US Navy, a life member of the Van Wert VFW and was a 1954 graduate of the Hoaglin-Jackson High School.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Mohr Cemetery, Van Wert County, Ohio. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the Van Wert American Legion & VFW Posts.
