Ida Florance Chilton, age 85, of Milton, Kentucky, and the daughter of the late Bennie Chester and Tonnie Bailey (Tungett) Payton, was born on April 29, 1935, in Henry County. Kentucky. On January 30, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bobby Eugene Chilton in Bedford, Kentucky, and this union was blessed with three children: Betty, Kenneth, and Troy. However, she was known for being a mother and caretaker to many throughout her life, as she helped raise many of her siblings, as well as her nieces and nephews. For over twenty-five years, she worked in the paint department at Kawneer in Carrollton, Kentucky. She also enjoyed babysitting for different families throughout the years. Ida was a very humble worker, who was always going out of her way to care for those around her. It was very evident that she always thought of others before herself. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Bedford, Kentucky. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning vegetables, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ms. Chilton passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at her residence in Milton.

Her life will be cherished by her children: Betty Lou Stephan, and her husband, James of Madison, Indiana, Kenneth Earl Chilton and his wife, Betsie, of Hanover, Indiana, and Troy Eugene Chilton and his wife, Barbara Ann, of Bedford; her sisters: Martha Lois Cooke and her husband, Bill of Batavia, New York, and Lucy Rae Roberts of Carrollton, Kentucky; her brothers: Bennie Chester Payton, Jr. and his wife, Pam of Milton, George Washington Payton and his wife, Mandy of Dupont, Indiana; and Floyd Wayne Payton of Carrollton, Kentucky; her grandchildren: Michael Dustin Stephan, Jordan Evan Stephan and his wife, Cassy, Devin Sawyer Stephan and his wife, Cathy; Keith Douglas Chilton and his wife, Tasia; Alesha Christine D'Onofrio and her husband, James; Ethan Storm Chilton, and Tessa Isabelle Chilton; her great grandchildren: Chandler Lane Stephan, Jacob Eli Stephan, Audrey Elizabeth Stephan, David Kent Chilton, Seth Douglas Chilton, Asher Keith Chilton, and Chloe Marie Kahl; her step great-great grandchild: Addison Grace Ashcraft; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Chester Payton, Sr. on November 8, 1993; her mother, Tonnie Bailey Payton on May 20, 1983; her sisters: Elizabeth Payton on June 28, 1942, and Linda Kay Payton on August 16, 1949; her brothers: Charles David Payton on February 14, 1947, Chester Bailey Payton on August 7, 2009, James Leonard Payton on February 10, 2010; and William Edward Payton on May 8, 2011; her niece: Teresa Carol Payton on September 10, 1973; and her nephew: Chester Dwayne Payton on December 3, 2011.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the many caretakers and Hosparus Health of Louisville, who cared for her over the years.

Reverend Sam Epley will conduct graveside services at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Moffett Cemetery, in Milton, Kentucky, with interment to follow. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, Madison's Hilltop from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday.
