LAVERKIN, Utah -- Ovando Gubler, age 93, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1993, at the Zion Health Care Complex in Hurricane, Utah. He was born Feb. 10, 1900 in St. George, a son of Henry W. and Susanna Pickett Gubler. He married Edna Nielson June 20, 1958 in the St. George LDS Temple.
Ovando lived in LaVerkin his entire life. He was a World War II veteran and an active member of the LDS Church, serving a mission to the southern states for three years. He was the second Bishop of the LaVerkin Ward and active in scouting. He graduated from BYU at age 33. He taught school for one year at Hurricane High School. As a Dixie Peddler, Ovando sold fruit and sorghum in the Washington County area. He was a farmer and rancher in the Kolob and Coal Pits areas. He enjoyed gardening and always raised a beautiful garden. Survivors include: wife, Edna, LaVerkin; three children, Mrs. Bryan "Patricia" Bracken, St. George, James O. Gubler and wife Cori, Seattle, Wash., Edna Claire Millett, St. George; four grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Rosalba Fuller, Washington, Utah, Horatio Gubler, Ruth Nielson, LaVell Turner, all of LaVerkin, Clark J. Gubler, Orem Utah, Donworth V. Gubler, Spanish Fork, Utah, Ardella Heiner, LaVerkin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Winford and William Tell Gubler.
Funeral services are Monday, Oct. 11, 1993 at 11 a.m. at the LaVerkin Stake Center, 481 North Main. Friends may call Sunday from 7-8 p.m. at the Spilsbury Desert Rose Mortuary, 525 W. State St., Hurricane, and again on Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the LaVerkin Stake Center. Burial will be at the LaVerkin City Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury Desert Rose Memorial Chapel.
