Doris Hahn, born Doris Elizabeth Hettick to Hardin and Daisy Hettick on July 9, 1904 at Severance, Kansas, died in Phillipsburg, on April 8, 2002, at the age of 97.

Doris attended a one room school in Doniphan County, Kansas and graduated from Severance High in 1922. In order to attend college, she rode the train to Topeka to Washburn University. Doris graduated from Washburn with honors in 1927 and inducted into Tau Delta Pi, Quill and Scroll honor societies. After graduation, she taught high school music and English in Sylvan Grove, Portis, and then at Agra. Though her salary was meager, Doris helped her younger sister and brother through Washburn and even was able to assist her parents during the "Great Depression". While she was at Washburn she had met Frank Hahn on a blind date and started a relationship that would last a life time.

After Frank graduated from Washburn Law School and was elected Phillips County Attorney, they were married on September 1, 1933 in Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka. Doris and Frank then moved to Phillipsburg where Frank practiced law until his death in 1996.

Doris, was very active in community affairs. In 1940, she became the first woman elected to the Phillipsburg School Board. During the "war" years, she taught high school Spanish, as foreign language teachers were unavailable. She also formed a performance group of 24 youth that campaigned throughout Kansas for her friend and neighbor, Huck Boyd.

Music was a great part of Doris life, especially in the praise of God. In 1933, she became the Director of the Chancel Choir of the Phillipsburg Methodist Church, a position she held until 1964. She sang and played for weddings, and funerals. directed annual Easter and Christmas cantatas, and even organized the "handbell" choirs for the church youth, with Franks help. The Middle and High school handbell choirs performed throughout the area. The choirs even attended Festivals and Camps around the Midwest, with Doris and Frank, as their sponsors.

Travel was another joy for Doris. She and Frank traveled not only to all 50 states in the U.S. but they also went to every continent except Antarctica. They loved meeting people and opened their home to many of the friends from afar.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, with whom she enjoyed 62 years of marriage. She is survived by three children: a son and two daughters, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
