From the family genealogy authored by her husband, Lawson William Magruder (1842-1908), written c. 1903:

"Jessie Maxwell Kilpatrick, wife of Lawson William Magruder was born at Holly Springs, Miss. July 12th, 1848. She was the daughter of Col. Joseph Henry Kilpatrick and Caroline Clark. Col. Kilpatrick was Lt. Col. of the 2nd Miss. Regiment in the Mexican War. He was quite a distinguished lawyer. Her mother died in 1853 in Shreveport, La. and she and her sister Louise Kilpatrick (who afterwards married John Pickett) were raised by their aunt Mrs. Jane Eliza Clark [Pickett], quite distinguished for her culture and the wife of Mecajah [sic] Pickett a wealthy planter. Her grandfather was Wm. Clark a Campbellite minister. At one time treasurer of the State of Mississippi, and was General of the State militia in North Carolina, of which state he was a native. He died in Jackson, Miss. in 1856. Jessie Kilpatrick Magruder died at her residence in Vicksburg, Miss. 110 Drummond St. on Nov. 20th, 1902."
