Two Drown in Missouri, Funeral Here

Two former Alfalfa residents were highway traffic accident victims Monday night near their home in Holiday MO. Mr. & Mrs. Leonard M. Ward, who grew up in the Alfalfa community, were killed when the automobile in which they were riding struck a bridge abutment and fell into a creek. Meager reports reaching here say the couple were drowned. Leonard is the son of Mr. & Mrs. G.W. Ward of Carnegie.

Members of the family here have received only brief telephone reports, giving this information. Mr. & Mrs. Ward had been to Monroe City MO, about 12 miles from their home at Holiday, and were returning home. The accident happened about 1-1/2 miles from their home. They had left Monroe City at 3pm and Mrs. Ward's watch stopped at 8pm. A mailcarrier found the bodies in the creek at 8am Tuesday.

Besides his parents, Mr. & Mrs. G.W. Ward, Leonard is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Murial Fletcher, Carnegie; Mrs. D.C. Ridgeway, Hydro; Mrs. A.M. Vincent, Tulare CA; Mrs. J. Paul Washburn, Lookeba and Mrs. L.M. Matthews, Holiday MO.
