Thomas R. Orton, 75, life long resident of Pemiscot County, died at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital, Sunday, July 10, after a long illness. Mr. Orton was born in Braggadocio on March 6, 1885, the son of Riley and Virginia Orton, and lived his entire life in that community, where he was a member of the Baptist Church. He carried on extensive farming operations as long as his health permitted.
He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Sykes of Waverly, Tenn. and Mrs. Virgie Garrett of Hayti, a foster brother, Bill Barksdale, of Braggadocio, also a large number of nephews and nieces, among them Sheriff Clyde Orton of this city and Virgil and Willard Garrett of Hayti.
Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Braggadocio Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald G. Foley officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home services.
