U.S. Congressman. He was a successful iron merchant and a member of the New York State Assembly, (1885-86). In 1887, he was elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth Congress, serving until 1889. After his term, he was watchman in the customhouse at New York City, in 1890. The circumstances of his death at age 43 were unclear when he was found dead by a train crew alongside the railroad tracks near Pleasantville, New Jersey.
