MRS. PHILLIPS KILLED AS CAR OVERTURNS

Mrs. Josephine Green Phillips, wife of John J. Phillips, Jr., was killed, probably instantly, when her car overturned five miles southwest of Garden City on the pump station road Thursday afternoon, October 3, 1946.

Mrs. Phillips had left a missionary society meeting at the Garden City Baptist church at about 3:30 p. m. Although it was impossible to tell from the wreckage of the car, it was surmised she had either started on a visit or was returning from having taken someone
home.

Apparently, the machine struck a soft shoulder on the graveled road. Tommy Hayes, Big Lake, discovered her at about 5 p.m.

A life-long resident of Glasscock County, Mrs. Phillips was born March 23, 1913 and attended high school in Big Spring.

Her mother was buried here 20 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, who operates a ranch 17 1/2 miles south of Big Spring; two sons, John J. Phillips, III, 10, and Don Charles Phillips, 5; her father, J.
C., Green, Milford; a sister, Mrs. Helen Arnold, Briggs, and a brother, Luther Green, Marfa.

Among survivors on her husband's side, and who will attend services Saturday afternoon at Garden City are Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Phillips, Sr., Sterling City route, parents- in-law; Mrs. A. W. Tyree, Ballinger, Mrs. V. L. Cunngham and Mrs. T. C. Rankin, Odessa, Mrs. J. D. Yancey, Texas City, O. R. Phillips, Midland, H. O. Phillips, Brownfield. and F. F. Phillips, Big Spring.

The body will lie in state here at Eberley Chapel until 1 p. m. Saturday when it will be taken to Garden City for services in the Baptist church, of which she was a long-time member.
