Charles Nelson, 64, a retired employee of the Northern Pacific Railway Company in Staples, passed away at the Staples Municipal hospital on Friday, September 10.

Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13, from the Church of the Sacred Heart, with Reverand F.C. Falque officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers for the final rites were Gabriel Fahnlander, Leo Fahnlander, Donald Nelson, Leonard Wrede, Charley Nelson and Charles Skrupe, all nephews of the deceased.

Charles John Nelson was born the son of Charles S. and Julia Nelson on May 25, 1901 in Moran Township of Todd County. He received his education in the schools of that community and later attended Staples High school. He was employed as a clerk for the Northern Pacific Railway Company in Staples, which position he held until his retirement about two years ago.

From September 15, 1942 until February 13, 1943, he served his country in the Armed Forces.

He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, the Ivan V. Sarff Post No. 70 of the American Legion and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.

Survivors include three sisters; Mrs. Eugene Fahnlander and Mrs. Anselm Wrede, both of Staples and Mrs. Hugh Scrupe of Minneapolis; and two brothers, Frank Nelson of Staples and Glenn Nelson of El Paso, Texas.

Besides his parents, he was proceeded in death by two sisters.
