S. S. Smith ROANOKE. ALA., Jan. 3. S. S. Smith, age 77, a citizen of this community for more than half a century, died early Tuesday morning after failing health for several years but having been confined to his bed for only a few days. Funeral services were held from the First Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon by his pastor, the Rev. H. P. Williams, assisted by the Baptist pastor, the Rev. T. E. Steely, with Quattlebaum directing. Burial was in the Roanoke cemetery. He was the last surviving member of a family of ten children. His wife, Mrs. Ella Gauntt Smith, Inventor of the Ella Smith indestructible dolls. died several years ago The only survivors of his Immediate family are an adopted daughter, Mrs. Hoyt Pin-son, of Thomasvllle, Oa., and a nephew of Mrs. Smith, Carey Gauntt, of Roanoke, both of whom were reared In the Smith home, Mr. Smlth'r full name was Smiley Statesrlghts Smith, the middle name indicating the burning sectional and political issue that was being settled by the sword at the time of hi birth,
