The Roanoke Leader of 28 Dec 1944:
Mrs. Eula Awbrey Brannan, age 58, died at her home on West Point Street at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon following an illness of four years. Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday afternoon with the Revs. Denson Franklin and Belt White officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery, and Quattlebaums Funeral Home was in charge.
Serving as pallbearers were J. F. Hester, Warren McPherson, C. S. Prescott, Frank Stevenson, R. L. Hodges, and Morgan Schuessler.
Mrs. Brannan is survived by one son, Lt. Col. Max Brannan, of Merced, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Hugh Smith, of Roanoke; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Pool and Mrs. R. A. Wadsworth, of Roanoke; and four brothers: Ben, Tom, and Pate Awbrey, of Roanoke, and Mat Awbrey.
Mrs. Brannan was born August 25, 1886, in Heard County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. T. B. Awbrey, and moved with her parents to Roanoke at the age of 3. She had been a member of the Baptist Church here for 45 years. Mrs. Brannan was the widow of the late Bunyan B. Brannan, long prominent in the drug business, whose death occurred 10 years ago.
Throughout her life Mrs. Brannan remained a quiet, loyal woman, devoted to her home and family, and deeply appreciated by them and by her neighbors and other close friends.
