Peter was born in Vermont as were his parents. Peter Hall had an alias - William Conley. He served in Company H of the 142nd New York Infantry. The person named William Conley who was enlisted in the 142nd New York Infantry at Plattsburg, New York as a private on 9/15/1864. He was wounded in action on 10/27/1864 at Fair Oakes, Virginia. He was discharged for his disability on 4/11/1865 from Grant Hospital, Willet's Point, New York Harbor.

During the census of 1900 Peter Hall was a widowed day laborer living alone in klamath Falls, Klamath County in souther Oregon.

He married 5 times. He married, Etta Greenland Benson (wife #5) about 1904. She was born in Iowa about 1858. This was her second marriage. She had a son and was divorced. He was admitted to the Oregon Soldiers' Home in Roseburg, Oregon on 3/12/1904. At the time of the 1910 census Peter Hall was living on Harvard Avenue in Roseburg, Oregon (within blocks of the Soldiers' Home)

He died in January 1917. Documents disagree about his death date some say January 21 orthers say January 22nd.

His widow, Etta Hall, received a pension. In the census of 1920 she was still living in Roseburg. She died at the Oregon State Hospital on 11/2/1924.
