Reuben Bunce, 1st Iowa Cavalry, Co. L, Age 44. Residence Anamosa, nativity New York. Enlisted Sept. 1, 1861, as Farrier. Mustered Sept. 24, 1861. Discharged for disability Nov. 15, 1861, Benton Barracks (St. Louis,) Mo. He was admitted to the Iowa Veterans Home April 9, 1888. He was the 140th soldier admitted to the new facility. He is buried at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery.
Reuben Bunce was mentioned as an early pioneer in Jackson County in the Cedar County History Book. There is note that he came from Ohio with a load of goods at that time.
