Ellen Jeffers Brown died Feb. 21, 1898 age 66 years 4 months in Mt. Carroll, IL. She was born Oct. 28, 1838 in Norwich, NY. and came to Whiteside county, IL. with her parents., Stephen and Cynthia Jeffers in 1838. She married Bradley Brown July 5th, 1852 and they moved to Charter Grove. Three children are all deceased. Mr. Brown died May 26, 1870 and will be buried there on Feb. 25. She was living with a brother in Mt. Carroll.

Memoir of Mrs. Ellen Brown.

Ellen Jeffers was born October 28,
1831, in the town of Norwich, N. Y.,
and died in Mt. Carroll, Carroll county,
Illinois, February 21, 1898, aged 66
years and 4 months. She came with
her parents, Stephen and Cynthia
Jeffers, in the year 1838, to Whiteside
county, Illinois. On July 5, 1852, she
was married to Bradley Brown, and
afterwards removed with her family to
Charter Grove. Three children were
born to them, two of whom died in infancy.
One boy lived to the age of
thirteen years. Mr. and Mrs. Brown
resided continuously in Charter Grove
until the death of the husband, with
the exception of one year, 1866, they
lived in Minnesota. Mr.- Brown died
May 26, 1870, and was buried at Charter
Grove cemetery where her remains
were taken and deposited on February
25, 1898, the funeral services being conducted
in the Charter Grove church by
Rbev. W. H. Smith, of Genoa. After
the death of her husband the subject of
this sketch had returned to Whiteside
county, then removed to Stephenson
county where she resided with a
brother until his death which occurred
about two months ago, when she made
her home with another brother at Mt.-
Carroll, where she died. Mrs. Brown
made a profession of religion thirty
years ago and lived a good Christian
life. She was beloved by all who knew
her.
