The 1900 Federal census for Asa Alden of Baker, Baker County, Oregon shows he was 71 and born April 1829 in New York.

Asa, born in Broome County New York, stood 5’8, had light complexion, dark hair and blue eyes. A carpenter by trade, he was single at the time of enlistment.

He fought on the side of the Union during the Civil War. Asa N. Alden enlisted as a private in the Union Army on August 6, 1862, at the age of 30, for a three year hitch. He mustered in, at Pontiac, IL, on September 8, 1862 in Company G, Illinois 129th Infantry Regiment on 08 Sep 1862. Surviving the war he mustered out on June 8, 1865 at Washington, DC. Records show he was absent sick since April 6, 1865.

On June 16, 1881, while living in Missouri, he applied for a Civil War Pension, Application No. 423476, Certificate No. 684830.

In 1897, while living in Baker City, Oregon, he applied to enter the Oregon Soldiers home in Roseburg, Oregon. He died in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon on January 17, 1901.
