He lived in Perry Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. David S. Aiken (spelled Aikin in recruitment rolls), was recruited in Butler County, Pennsylvania, by Company C of the 100th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers on December 28, 1863. He was a Private for the Union during the Civil War in Company C of the 100th Pennsylvania Infantry enlisting Dec. 28, 1863 and continuing until May 17, 1865. He became sick at Petersburg, Virginia and became deaf. He was discharged in Washington DC.

David was a carpenter and a resident of Tenmile, Oregon. He was a widower when he entered the Oregon Soldiers' Home in Roseburg, Oregon in 1900. He died in Roseburg on August 1, 1901 of paralysis. His nearest relative was AG Aiken in Coquille, Oregon.
