William H. Sutherland was born on April 8, 1871 to parents Stephen Elijah Sutherland and Marion L. (Wade) Sutherland. William"Bill" Sutherland married Mary Polaski in Cutler, WI. The couple built a small log home near Wyeville, WI. Bill worked for the railroad on a section crew. He was educated up to the third grade. His wife, Mary, had never attended school but Bill taught her to read and write. Around 1902, Bill quit the railroad and the couple moved near Oakdale, WI. and started farming. Then in 1906 they bought their own farm near Mount Tabor, WI. and farmed it until 1952 when their daughter Cora and her husband farmed it. After Mary's death in 1958, Bill's health start failing. He lived with his daughter Dessie and her husband Preymer for awhile, until he was moved to a nursing home in Viroqua, WI where he passed away a short time later on August 13, 1959 at the age of 88 years. Bill is buried next to his wife Mary in the Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Mount Tabor, WI.
