Eliza was the last child in a family of 10. The family moved from N.Y. to Woodford county, Illinois between 1855 and 1860. She married there on November 21, 1875 to Walter W. Bell, whose first wife had died the year before. He had two sons, ages 7 & 4.

Their first son was born in Illinois in 1876. The 2nd child, a daughter, was born in Iowa the next year. By 1880, they had moved to Barton County, Kansas where they were farming. By 1885 they are farming in Reno Co. Kansas where they remained the rest of their lives.

After her husband died, she moved into Hutchison with her three youngest children. In 1930, she was living in Wichita with her youngest daughter, Zella, and family. Zella died in 1932, so Eliza moved to Jetmore, Hodgeman County to live with her oldest daughter, Anna and her stepson, William.
