Mary Ridgeway was born 14 Dec 1811 in KY. She married James Watson on 21 Feb 1833 in Sangamon Co. Illinois. Bancroft reports that in the 1847 migration, Mr Watson of Kings Valley drove some short horn stock to Oregon, where he took DLC 1927. The book,Space, Style & Structure by OHS, 1974, describes the barn built by John Ridgeway for his sister in 1849. It features the largest hand hewn timber section found in the Willamette Valley, with a taper from 12" to 27" at the midspan of the 28' long chord. The Watson home, built in 1852, and the barn are still standing in Benton Co., on Hoskins Rd.Mary was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky.

Mary's family left Kentucky and moved to Sangamon County.
