John Luther Davenport was the last of nine children born to George Henry Davenport and Nancy Louisa (Ledford) Davenport. His parents had removed to Arkansas abt. 1886/1887 from Clay County, North Carolina, where their first five children were born. The last four were born in Arkansas. John's four grandparents were born in North Carolina and died there.

John was a corporal in the U.S. Army in World War I. He enlisted in Huntsville, AR on Jun, 15, 1918. After the war, he married Myrtle Mae Dunaway on Feb. 27, 1921 at the home of her father, William Dunaway, in Drake's Creek, Arkansas. John and Myrtle had nine children.

When John died, he was interred next to Myrtle in the Pinnacle Cemetery, just a few miles up the hill from the farm where they raised their children.

John was noted for his great sense of humor and stories. He was a good man and is sorely missed.
