Lennis C. Keaton, 85, of Columbus, formerly of Morgantown and Franklin, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Four Seasons Retirement Center.

Mr. Keaton had been a teacher in the Fowler school system and retired in 1975 as a junior high teacher with Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.

He was a member of Indiana State Teachers Association, a former member of Redman Lodge at Morgantown and a former deacon at Spearsville Church of Christ.

He was a graduate of Franklin College and an Army veteran of World War II.

He was known for his story-telling and was called "Mayor of 13th Street" by his neighbors.

Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown with the Rev. John Parsley officiating. Calling will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Brown County.

Mr. Keaton was born in Brown County July 31, 1915, the son of Roy M. and Lena O. Richardson Keaton. He married Alice Woods Aug. 30, 1952. She died in 1990.

He is survived by a brother, Earl Keaton of Clearwater, Fla.; sisters, Garnet Parsley of Nashville and Irene Canter of Franklin; and caregivers, Donn and Shirley Adams of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Claris and James D. Keaton; and sisters, Mary Keaton, Betty C. Harris, Gaynelle Yount, Ethel Alvey and Olive Watson.

Lennis C. Keaton, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus. He was a resident of Columbus and a former resident of Morgantown and Franklin.

He was born July 31, 1915, in Brown County. His parents were Roy M. and Lena O. (Richardson) Keaton. He married Alice (Woods) Keaton on Aug. 30, 1952, in Columbus. She preceded him in death in 1990. Survivors include a brother, Earl Keaton of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Irene Canter of Franklin and Garnet Parsley of Nashville; two special caregivers, Donn and Shirley Adams of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Claris and James D. Keaton; and five sisters, Mary Keaton, Betty C. Harris, Gaynelle Yount, Ethel Alvey and Olive Watson.

He was a 1950 graduate of Franklin College.

He was employed by Columbus schools as a teacher in the junior high, retiring Feb. 1, 1975, and was previously employed by Fowler school system.

He was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, past member of Redman Lodge in Morgantown and past deacon of Spearsville Church of Christ. He was a great storyteller.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

The Rev. John Parsley will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Monday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Brown County.
