ARDEN CITY, Tex. (UPI) - Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. today for prominent West Texas rancher Stephen C. Currie, 71, who was shot and killed in his fashionable ranch home late Wednesday by a robber.

Texas Rangers at Midland said they were still searching the area for a suspect, described as a young man six foot tall wearing tattered shoes.

"It's quite a mystery," a Texas Ranger spokesman said.

Curried owned the Currie Cattle Co. and a 10,000-acre ranch near Garden City, between Midland and Big Spring.

He stole $500 cash, a bag of diamond-ladened jewelry and three revolvers.

Currie was a native of rural Wisconsin and came to Texas in 1920, settling in Garden City. He is survived by his wife and a son, James C. Currie, who was a partner in the Currie hereford cattle ranch.
