Robert and his brothers Hal and DeEdward were partners in a law firm in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas in the late 1800's. By 1900, they had parted ways, DeEdward going to Dallas, and Robert and Hal to Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, where they continued practicing law. R.A. Greer is shown to have been a member of Corsicana Lodge #174. This is shown on page 28 of "A History of Corsicana Lodge #174, A.F. & A.M., 1851-1920.

According to the source Members of the Texas Congress, 1836-1845; Members of the Texas Legislature, 1846-1992, Robert A. Greer served in the Texas Senate during the 23rd and 24th Legislative Sessions (1893 and 1895). He also served in the House during the 27th Legislative Session, 1901.
