"Charles Albert 'Charlie' Kendig, 97, of Heber Springs, formerly of Magnolia, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Heber Springs. He was born March 27, 1912 in Turrell to the late Henry Quincy and Laura Elizabeth Kendig. Charlie was a veteran in the United States Army during World War II. He was the owner of Charlie's Army-Navy Store both in Magnolia and Newport. Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church of Heber Springs and a past member of Central Baptist Church of Magnolia and First Baptist Church of Newport. Charlie was a past member of the Magnolia Country Club. He loved to play golf, fish and play bridge. He loved to do all these activities with his beloved wife Mary for 68 years. He loved his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Albert 'Sonny' Kendig, Sr.; one brother, and four sisters. Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Kendig of Heber Springs; daughter, Ms. Mary Davidson of North Little Rock; three grandsons, Ken R. Robison, Jr. of Heber Springs, James A. Kendig, Jr. and wife, Karen, of Hot Springs, and Chuck Kendig of North Carolina; three granddaughters, Kimberly Gail Robison of Searcy, Karen Coleen Griffin of Texas, and Lisa Kendig of North Carolina, and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held April 30 at New Hope Cemetery with Bro. Steve Ford officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc."
