2nd Tennessee Infantry. Died April 20, 1862. Judging from the date of death, he probably died in the Cumberland Gap from one of the diseases ravaging the camps such as measles, typhoid fever etc. They enlisted in early March so he would have donned a uniform and pulled duty but participated in few battles defending the Union he swore to protect. There were not enough uniforms to go around at that time. Those who came off duty took off the uniform and gave it to the one going on duty. If that first man had been exposed to a contagious disease he would have easily passed it on to the next man who wore the clothes. Those who died so long ago and who have no one to remember them deserve the respect left by your tokens. Thank you.
