Mary married Captain R.E. (Rex) Chambless on 13 April, 1941 (Easter Sunday) and moved to Destin. They had several children, Harold, Carol, Rita, Rex, Wanda, Frankie and Richard. They built their home at 530 Calhoun Avenue in 1942 and she lived there until her passing on 4 January, 2012.
She always put others needs before her own. She was a Cub Scout den mother, she was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Destin, and she worked approximately 5,000 hours at the VA Hospitals. She was recognized by President George H.W. Bush for her work at VA Hospitals.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; husband R. E. Chambless and her son, Harold Chambless. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Dorothy Arnett; sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Brunson; three daughters; three sons; 29 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, January 9, 2012 at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 8 Racetrack Road, N.E., Ft. Walton Beach, FL 32547, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church of Destin, 154 Calhoun Avenue, Destin, beginning at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Frank Dole officiating. Burial will follow at Destin Memorial Cemetery.
