Mustered with Co. K 1st New York Cavalry at Grand Rapids, MI on 20 August 1861 as a Private received a Medical discharge on 20 December 1862. Worked as an orderly for General Newton who commanded the division the 11th was assigned to in the Washington D.C. area
Mustered with Co. C 11th Mich. Cavalry at Kalamazoo MI on 20 December 1863 as a Sargent. Later became the Commisary Sargent. In 1865 Co. C became Co. M of the 8th Mich. Cavalry. Moved to Reno County Kansas after the war.
