Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Monday, May 24, 1965:
   Highland, IL—Final rites for Gerhard Frank Alberternst, 73, a shoe repairman, will be Tuesday morning at 9:30 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Mr. Alberternst died Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital where he had been a patient 11 days.
   He was born Oct. 9, 1891 in Clinton County, a son of John and Adeleid Richter Alberternst. He was married to Cecelia Henrichs on Nov. 28, 1917 at St. Rose.
   Besides his wife he is survived by three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Leona) Begemann and Vincent Alberternst of Wright City, Mo., Robert of Collinsville, John and Mrs. Norbert (Edna) Frank, both of Highland; two brothers and three sisters, William of Highland, John of Carlyle, Mrs. Ben (Theresa) Schroer and Mrs. Henry (Mary) Grapperhaus of Breese and Mrs. Tony (Dora) Sudholt of Aviston. Thirteen grandchildren survive. He was preceded in death by two sons and three brothers.
   Mr. Alberternst was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
   Visitation is at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. William B. Whalen will officiate at the funeral Mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
