Isham (Isom?) Dalton was at Appomattox, VA. when Lee surrendered to Grant.
The men had to surrender their weapons, parade before the Northern armies, and wait for their parole passes to be printed, so they could leave Appomattox and not be arrested for desertion or captured by other Federals.
Upon his release, Isham walked home to the Peters Creek -Aarons Corner area of Stokes County, N.C.
He was a blacksmith and a large land owner and farmer.

He later named 2 children Lee, in honor and respect of his leader.
Most War records list him as a "Wagoneer."
