Mary (Zupon) Gast, age 86, 822 10th Avenue North, Fargo, ND, died Friday, March 21, 2003, in her home.
Mary Zupon was born December 4, 1916, near Lidgerwood, ND, the daughter of Anton and Katherine (Schreiner) Zupon. She grew up in this area and attended Styles county school. She later attended St. Bonifaces Catholic School in Lidgerwood. She lived in this area until 1934 when she moved to Breckenridge, MN, where she worked as a nanny until 1939.
On November 7, 1939, she married Ernest Gast at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cayuga, ND. Together they farmed near Cayuga before moving to Rutland, ND, where they farmed until 1960. In 1960, they moved to Fargo where she has lived since. Mary worked for Fargo Laundry for a number of years before her retirement. Ernest died on December 11, 1982.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and later of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, both in Fargo. She had a green thumb and loved to grow roses.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Gast of Mankato, MN, Anthony A. (June) Gast of Fountain, CO, Cecelia Gast of Fargo, Jeanne (Larry) Kessel of Fargo, and Jacqueline (Alfred) Grenstiner of Black Hawk, SD. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and sisters, Katherine Haring of Wisconsin, Rose Woytassek of Dwight, ND, Anna Koschney of Hankinson, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Mary Leonard; two grandsons; one daughter-in-law; one son-in-law; one brother; and four sisters.
Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. Visitation will be held Monday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held in the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
