PORTER COUNTY MAN DEAD AT HEBRON -- John Stewart, a pioneer resident of Porter county, died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock at his home in Hebron. He had been in poor health for some time with cancer trouble. Mr. Stewart was a son of William Stewart and was born in Ireland in 1844. He came to this country in 1847 with his parents and, after a number of years residence in New York and Ohio, came to Porter county, Indiana, in 1851 and settled on a farm in Porter township. He was a soldier in the civil war, serving with Company I, Ninth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, in the Army of the Cumberland. Louis Ladauer and Joseph Zea, of this city, were members of the same regiment. Mr. Stewart was united in marriage in 1868 to Martha M. Young, who survives, together with the following children: Mrs. Otto Biggs, of this city; Harry Stewart, who recently moved here from LaPorte; Dr. William J. Stewart, of Summerfield, Kas.; Clayton Stewart, of Big Springs, Tex.; Mrs. Alice Vicar, of Sioux City, Ia.; and Mrs. Aggie Mae Simpson and Mrs. Elizabeth Simpson, both of Hebron. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the United Presbyterian church in Hebron. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. -- Vidette-Messenger - June 2, 1921
