Son of Jacob Moore (my GG Grandfather) who was born in County Wicklow, Ireland and served as a volunteer in the Union Army; Company H 1st Regiment West Virginia Light Artillery under Captain James Holmes' command. Jacob enlisted on 25 Aug 1864 and was discharged on 9 May 1865, during that short time he certainly witnessed more than his share of history! On 28 Nov 1864, he was captured at the battle of New Creek, Virginia, force marched and confined as a prisoner of war at Pemberton House (an abandoned tobacco warehouse) in Richmond, VA on 7 Dec 1864, awaiting transfer to the infamous Andersonville prison. He was still in Richmond when it was burnt by fleeing Rebels and townsfolk just before being captured by the Union troops.
Discharged back to Wheeling, with a great deal of difficulty walking due to bi-lateral vericose veins, he lived there until he could no longer be cared for at home, he was moved to The National Soldiers Home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Hampton Roads, Elizabeth City, Virgina (a distance of at least 250 miles) where died on 12 Oct 1890. He was one of the first burials at the new National Cemetery at Hampton Roads, VA. that is filled with Union and Confederate soldiers.
His wife was Blandina Reich who immigrated from Wurtenberg, Germany during the time of great unrest and poverty there.
Father to: John D (1856-1936), Andrew S (1856-1918), Mary J. (1860-1884), Catherine (1863- ), Joseph Edgar (My G Grandfather) (1866-1922), James G (1869- ), Jacob (1871-)

Frank (my G Uncle) enlisted in the Army on 17 Mar 1892 at Wheeling, West Virginia and was assigned to Troop "G" 1st Regiment of the US Calvary he was discharged on 16 June 1895 from Fort Riley, Kansas. He again enlisted on 22 May 1897 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona Territory in Troop "K" of the US Calvary. He was appointed Ferrier 14 August 1897. Transfering to Troop "L" of the very famous 7th Calvary Regiment (GarryOwen) on 21 June 1898, he was appointed as Wagoner 21 July 1898. He died while serving with the 7th CAV on 2 Sept 1889 at the post hopital on Fort Grant, Arizona Territory with the rank of Corporal. The cause of death was listed as Malignant Scarlatina (A malignant form of Scarlett Fever). This was a very common illness of the era and took the lives of many brave soldiers, including many of those that accompanied Teddy Roosevelt in the charge up San Juan Hill.
