Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville with Dan Cannon officiating.
Mr. Brooks was born in Prineville, to parents Carl and Ethel (Shoebert) Brooks on Oct. 26, 1935. He attended school in Prineville through the 8th grade at which time he worked for Gail Demaris on McKay Creek.
He worked on numerous ranches in the Prineville and Paulina area, and managed a ranch for Kit Elliott in McKay before entering the U.S. Army. He was Honorably discharged after basic training.
He returned to ranching in Central Oregon and Silver Lake. He later worked as a timber faller for Ray Demaris and also worked with Don Demaris.
After working for 16 years for the Oregon Department of Transportation in Mitchell, he retired in 2001. Mr. Brooks lived 37 years in the Mitchell area.
On June 12, 1965, he married Joyce Smith Cox in McDermott, Nev.
He was a past member of the Mitchell Lions Club, and his hobbies included horses, working cattle, roping, telling jokes and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Brooks; daughters, Wendy and her husband Larry Chancellor of Madras, Tina and husband Bill Bolton of Madras; son, Justin Brooks of Mitchell, Ore.; brother, Louis Brooks of Fossil, Ore.; grandchildren, Mathew Bolton, Quincy and Adina Brooks; great-grandson, Gavin Blaksley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Phillip Brooks, brother Carl Ray Brooks and granddaughter Traci Monk.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to Prineville Memorial Hospital Hospice or the Mitchell Ambulance Fund, Mitchell, Ore. 97750. Whispering Pines Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
