Born in Horry County, she was one of eleven children born to the late Grover C. Anderson and Mary Parker Anderson.
Gladys was a graduate of Conway High School and was a volunteer in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) at Pearl Harbor during WWII.
She touched many lives during her career as a house parent before retiring from the Coastal Center in Ladson.
Gladys was a charter member of South Side Baptist Church in Charleston.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter: Claudia Blanton of Ladson; a sister: Bessie Lempesis of Orangeburg; six grandchildren: Thomas C. Lamb, Bryan N. Lamb, Michael C. Blanton, Tracy Wilson, Annette Sternberg and Janet Blanton and six great-grandchildren.
