Maj. James A. Boord, 62, of Universal City, Texas, formerly of Greene County, died Sunday, January 24, 1988. He was a pilot in the US Air Force for 23 years. For the past 16 years was with the air traffic safety director at Randolph Air Force Base. Maj. Boord was nominated for the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy for his outstanding contributions to the US Air Force safety program. He was also awarded distinguished membership to the Aerospace Safety Hall of Fame. He was an active member of American Legion Post 667 in Universal City. Surviving are his wife, Virginia M. Boord; three daughters, Sandra K. Henry, Connie L. Balentine and Patti J. Gainey; two sons, James Alan and Robert W., his mother, Helen G. Boord of Carmichaels; two sisters, Virginia R. Schiffbauer of Carmichaels and Marjorie Tabor; a brother, Edward R. Boord of Carmichaels, and seven grandchildren. Services and burial were held in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
